George A. Sell, 98, of Rochelle, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, surrounded by his family. Born on Feb. 15, 1913 in Elk Grove Township, IL to Carl and Anna (Karnatz) Sell. George married Virginia C. Witthoefft on June 11, 1937 in Chicago, IL. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He had been previously employed as a carpenter and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his devoted wife: Virginia of Rochelle; children: Carol (Richard) Nilles of Valrico, FL, George (Carole) Sell of Visalia, CA, and Lorna (Gary) Haverland of Roscoe, IL; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Services to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle, IL at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2011, Pastors Greg Hoffman and Mark Wood officiating. Visitation Friday, March 4th from 5 to 8 PM at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, IL and also on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 AM at St. Paul Lutheran prior to funeral services. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle with military services by VFW Post 3878. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Ogle County Hospice.
