Obituary

George M. Stangley, of Rochelle, Illinois, passed away on October 31, 2026, at St. Anthony Medical Center following a prolonged illiness, with his loving wife by his side.

George was born on April 1, 1946, in Rochelle, Illinois, to Oscar and Dorothy (Skinner) Stangley. As the youngest child and the only boy among three sisters, George certainly held a special place in the family. Born on April Fools’ Day, his arrival came with a memorable family story. When the doctor announced that he was a boy, his father replied, “Please tell me this is not an April Fools’ joke!”. His family affectionately referred to him as “The Spoiled One”, which they all played a part in

There is something especially beautiful and meaningful about George’s passing on October 31st, his mother Dorothy’s birthday. George, who was affectionately known throughout his life as “The Spoiled One,” went home to heaven on the very day his mother celebrated her birthday. Perhaps it was her special way of calling her precious son home to her once again. Though his family will miss him dearly, there is comfort in imagining their joyful reunion in heaven, George and his parents together again.

George proudly served in the United States Army and carried that same sense of dedication and commitment into his life out side of the service. He built a long and respected career at Aigner/Avery Dennison, where he served as plant manager for many years. He also played an important role in facilitating the construction of the Avery Dennison building on South Main Street, leaving a lasting mark on the community. He also Served as Director of Maintenance at several nursing homes in the area.

George believed in giving back to the community he called home. He served on the Ogle County Board and proudly held the position of President of the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and liaison for the SBDC at Kishwaukee College. He along with friends Don Burke, Jack Gittleson and Dave Tess co-founded the Hub City Cruisers, which has raised substantial money for local charities. His leadership, hard work, and involvement helped shape the community he loved.

On June 21, 1991, in DeKalb, Illinois, George married the love of his life, Pamela Quick. Together, they shared many wonderful years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. George especially enjoyed spending time with Pamela, whether they were attending car shows, playing cards, or simply enjoying each other's company. His hobbies brought him happiness, but nothing meant more to him than the time he spent with his wife and family.

George is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Quick-Stangley of Rochelle, Illinois; his two sisters, Cheri (Jerry) Divine of Arvada, Colorado, and Connie Manning of Rochelle, Illinois; his five grandchildren, Logan, Erik, Sarah, Bryan, and Nadia Stangley; and their mother, Jen Stangley-Byrnes, and stepfather, Joe Byrnes; a nephew Chris (Debbie) Rice and niece Beth (Steve) Lause. George shared a very special bond with Tony and Kelly Musselman and their children, Callie (Alec), Brooke, and Jack, who were incredibly close to George and Pamela and are considered family. They hold a very special place in his heart.

He is also survived by his two sons from a previous marriage, Mickey Stangley and family of Washington and Matthew Stangley and family of Illinois.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Dorothy Stangley, and his sister, Carole Rice.
