Gunter P. Vogel, 75, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Rockford, Illinois. Gunter was born September 19, 1940 to Heinrich and Dora (Reif) Vogel in Kups, Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1957 and worked on a farm for four years. After that, he started at Del Monte in 1961 as a mechanic for 34 years before retiring. Gunter proudly served with the United States Army from 1963-1965. He married Juliane Wehmeyer on May 22, 1965 in Puyallup, Washington. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in south Texas. Gunter also loved football, soccer and spending most afternoons with "the boys" at McDonald's. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Heiner, Robert and Manfred and one sister, Babbet.
Gunter is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter, Heidi (Stephen) Hershberger of DeKalb, IL; sister, Ilse Zieglemier of Germany and two grandchildren: Devin and Trevor Hershberger.
