Charles "Hank" H. McDermott, 89, of Rochelle, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Rochelle Rehabilitation in Rochelle. He was born on March 21, 1925 in Dekalb, Il the son of James and Celina (Guilbault) McDermott Sr. On December 28, 1946, he married Maxine I. Friestad in Dekalb, IL. He is preceded in death by his wife; grandson: Jon LaRue and granddaughter Rene McDermott; brothers: Raymond, James JR. and John; sisters: Frances Lansford and Evelyn Thomas. Hank graduated from Dekalb High School and was a truck driver for 42 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a "Life Time Member" of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include sons; Daniel (Lori Bearrows) McDermott and Thomas (Denise) McDermott both of Rochelle; daughters: Vicki LaRue and Laurel (Nick Aguilar) Smith both of Rochelle; Brother: Leon (Marilee) McDermott of DeKalb and Patrick McDermott of Orange, CA; grandchildren: Tom Fletcher, Megan Specht, Patrick McDermott, Cass Headon, Melissa Smith, Adam Smith, Celina Smith, Rob Challand, Amie McDermott, Tim McDermott and Julie Challand; and many great grandchildren.
Services will be at St. Patrick Church in Rochelle on Wednesday, March 18, at 10:30 AM with Rev. Johnson Lopez. With visitation at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, IL on Tuesday, March 17, from 4 - 7 PM. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial fund to be established.
