Harriet Gocken, age 79, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on November 24, 1932 in White Rock Township, the daughter of Fred and Hattie Bulthaus Adams. She married Sam Wendel Gocken on June 18, 1952 at the Elim Reformed Church in Kings. Harriet was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper at the Holcomb Elevator prior to retiring. She is preceded in death by her son: Jeffrey Lee Gocken; 4 brothers: Ben, Fritz, LaVerne, and Gerald; and a sister: Kay Gerwig.
Survived by her husband, Sam of Lindenwood, daughter: Wendee (Jim) Guth of Metamora, 5 grandchildren: Gabriel (Kate) Millard, Noah (Emily) Millard, Emily (Josh) Gerdes, Kaelee and Andrew Guth; daughter-in-law: LouAnn (Chris) Millard; 5 brothers and sisters: Marie Frericks, Harold (Marge) Adams, Bill (Midge) Adams, Audrey (Floyd) Daub, and DeWayne (Marilyn) Adams.
Visitation will be on Thursday January, 26, 2012 from 4 - 7 PM at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle. Memorial service will be on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Elim Reformed Church in Kings with the Rev. Gerry Dykstra officiating. At Harriet's request and in her giving spirit, she has donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Association for medical science advancement. Her cremated remains will be interred at a later date at the White Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elim Reformed Church or Serenity Hospice.
