Obituary

George Harry Ross, 99, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois.  Harry was born on December 22, 1923 to John A. and Anne (King) Ross in Rochelle, IL.  In 1946, he received his Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI.  While attending U of W, he was part of the Babcock House.  Harry has been a season ticket holder of the Wisconsin Badger football team since his graduation in 1946.  On November 28, 1953, he married Frances Louise Amberger at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, IL.

Harry was a member of the Pork Producers, the Rochelle Lion's Club where he was active in helping with the pancake breakfasts, Easter egg hunts and Candy Days.  There were several weekends where he could be found attending football games all weekend long.  Friday night watching the Hub football team, Saturday going to the Badger football game and then following up on Sunday with going in to watch the Chicago Bears, where he was a season ticket holder for many years.

Harry is survived by his four children: Debbie Ross of Rockford, IL, Mike (Tammy) Ross of Maysville, KY, Kim Ross of Plano, TX, and Tom (Sherry) Ross of Rochelle; granddaughter, Caitlin Ross; three sisters-in-law: Jeanette Ross of Cambridge, IL, Shirley Donaldson of Loves Park, IL and Betty Staton of Steward, IL; and special friend, Lynn Krause of Rochelle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Frances, on March 31, 1975; sisters: Margaret Ross and twin sister, Mary Gille and two brothers: John and Hugh Ross.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M., Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Salt 251, 531 S. 7th St., Rochelle.  Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.  Private burial will be at the Lindenwood Cemetery in Lindenwood, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Harry's memory to the Rochelle Lion's Club or Shriners Children's Hospital.  Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
