Harry I. Shaffer, 84, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at his home in Rochelle. Harry was born on October 20, 1932 to Verl and Elsie (Bean) Shaffer in Wayne County, IL. He proudly served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. Harry married Brenda Henson on February 14, 1985 in Kings, IL. He worked for the City of Rochelle for many years. He also worked for M.F.C.H. Trucking Co. for 22 years, Maplehurst for 10 years and four years for Petry Farms. Harry loved to pass down the gift of fishing and other outdoor activities to the people he loved.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Forrest Shaffer.

Harry is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Rochelle, four children: Mary (Stephen) Harris of Geneva, IN, Ron (Judy) Childers of Creston, IL, Timothy Childers of Belvidere, IL and Anna (Tre) Childers Brown of Copperas Cove, TX; his sister, Sylvia (Gary) Brinkmeier of Pearl City, IL; sister-in-law, Janice Shaffer of Rochelle, IL; 13 grandchildren: Sarah, Matthew, Allison, Paul and Caroline Harris, Derek (Stephony) Johnson, Austin Childers, Hannah, Brandon and Lexi Childers, Darian, Riley and Kianna Childers Brown; three great-grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary and Landon Johnson; and his beloved pets: Oliver, Daisey and Lucy.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6 ^th St., Rochelle. The memorial funeral will follow at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Duane Boehm officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard and The United States Army. Cremation care has been accorded by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family.
