Haven "Eugene" Lutz, 74, of Rochelle, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at St. Anthony
Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born on Feb. 13, 1934 in Paw Paw, IL, the son of
John Haven and Esther (Barth) Lutz. Gene married Kathleen Juliann Thorsen on March 8,
1958 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee, IL. He farmed from 1956 to 1967, near Scarboro, IL. He then joined the Lee County Sheriff's Department in 1967 and retired in 1998 after serving as Chief Deputy for 20 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Steward High School, Korean War Veteran 1952-1954 in the U.S. Army and member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee; member of IL Sheriff's Association, Elks Mendota Lodge, Rochelle Moose Lodge, and VFW Post 3878 of Rochelle. Gene loved traveling, enjoyed Green Lake, WI and boating with his family and wintering in Marco Island, FL for 23 years, and was a Nascar fan. Preceding him in death were his Father: Haven Lutz and Mother: Esther Barth Schoenholz; stepfather: Donald Schoenholz; and a Sister: Patricia Althaus.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Kathleen of Rochelle; 2 daughters: Julie (Thomas) Huddleston of Rochelle and Janaan(William) Curran of Cary, IL; 4 grandchildren; Tommy Huddleston, Lindsey Huddleston, Tyler Curran and Cole Curran.
Services will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church on Perry Road in rural Lee, IL on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Wayne Derber. Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 25th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Church rural Lee and also on Monday prior to the funeral at 9:30 AM. at the Church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Steward, IL with Military Services by VFW Post 3878. Memorials to the Calvary Lutheran Church.
