Hazel Marie Jones, 69, of Holcomb, IL, passed away Fri. Feb. 21, 2014 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born October 13, 1944 in Manhattan, KS the daughter of Edward and Elinor (Herbic) Palenske. Hazel graduated from Wamego High School in 1962. She married LaVaughn Veron Jones on October 19, 1968 in Richland Center, WI. Hazel retired from Peterson Meadows in Rockford in 2007. Over the years she was also employed by Rockford Products, Spring Specialist and Grennan Meats. Hazel and LaVaughn attended Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford, IL for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gardening. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents.

Survived by her husband LaVaughn and 2 children: son Mark (Jenn) Jones of Chana, IL. and daughter Debbie (Tim) Zellmer of Grand Marsh, WI.; 2 brothers: James "Jim" (Bonnie) Palenske and Edward H. "Eddy" Jr. (Sue) Palenske of Wabaunsee County, KS; 1 sister: Joan (Leroy) Jackson of Wamego, KS; 3 grandchildren: Karley Marie Jones, Sawyer Markus Jones and Marissa Louise Zellmer and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wed. Feb. 26, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle with the Reverend Scott Nesse and Reverend Ronnie Jewett officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Tues. Feb. 25 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Memorial can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Burial will be at Big Mound Cemetery.
