Herbert Joseph Sondgeroth, 84, passed away at his home in Rochelle, Illinois Friday, October 13, 2023.  Herb was born on September 4, 1939 to Herbert J. and Ruth (Dieder) Sondgeroth in Mendota, IL.  He proudly served with the United States Army.  On September 17, 1993, he married Carol Cipolla Armesto in Rockford, IL.

Herb was a loving, loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He was a man of his word with a generous heart.  Herb grew up in west Brooklyn Illinois, with 13 siblings and was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was the founder and operator of Sondgeroth Pool Construction for 40 yeas. His passion for pools led him to lifetime friendships. He was always putting a smile on faces by joking and pulling pranks. During off pool season, Herb snow plowed residential and business areas. He loved to snowmobile, attend NASCAR and travel, which included great food. He also had the pleasure of going up north with his son and family. Herb took great pride in taking care of his yard. He loved life and his family.

Herb is survived by his wife, Carol of Rochelle; his son, Christopher (Kristine) Sondergoth of Rochelle; two stepchildren: Garrett (David) Egland-Rock of Lombard, IL and Tiffany Baker of Villa Park, IL; five grandchildren: Zackery (Ariana Lodico) Sondgeroth, Lexie (Mike Henry) Sondgeroth, Mitchell Baker, Carl Baker and Tyler Reints; four great grandchildren: Gianna and Miles Henry, and Elijah and Jett Sondgeroth; three brothers: Maurice Sondgeroth of Ashton, IL, Ron Sondgeroth of Rochelle and Terry Sondgeroth of Dixon, IL; and five sisters: Pat Malach of Sublette, IL, Barbara (Dave) Hershberger of Mendota, IL, Sharon Eckhardt of Ft. Myers, FL, Jeanette (Paul) Sereg of Dixon, IL and Kathy (Tom) Pozzi of Rockford, IL.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Reints; brother, Kevin Sondgeroth and three sisters: Marietta Sondgeroth, Norma Wendt and Theresa Flynn.

There will be a memorial service at 8:30 A.M., Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating.  Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.  Following the service, there will be an open house celebrating Herb's life at 10419 E.
