Herbert Eugene Whaley, age 102, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Serenity Hospice and Home. He was born September 3, 1918 in Rutland, Ohio, the son of Herbert M. and Catharine (Michael) Whaley.

Over the years, Eugene worked at Floyd Clark Farm, Learns in Rochelle, Bunger's Appliance in Rochelle, Quest Ready Mix in Rochelle and also took over the family farm when his father died. He later enjoyed wintering in Mesa / Apache Junction, AZ for several years. Eugene also enjoyed woodworking and then giving those projects to family and friends. He loved spending time with family, most recently the trips he took with his daughter and granddaughter and her family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leland D. Whaley; three sisters: Frances P. Crum, Anna Mae Karper, and Mary C. Gustafson; and son, Robert Whaley.

Survived by his daughter, Betty (William) Schabacker of Chana; son, Dennis Whaley of Earlville; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Flagg Center Cemetery with Rev. Andrew Kayes officiating. Unger Horner Funeral Home is assisting family with arrangements.
