Howard E. Rand, 91, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021at his home surrounded by his family. Howard was born on May 21, 1930 to Emmet and Mary (Riemsnider) Rand in DeKalb, IL. On March 15, 1952, he married Gloria Ohlinger in Esmond. In 1948, Howard graduated from Rochelle Township High School and then attended the University of Illinois for one year, returning home to help on the family farm. In 1968, he quit farming to go back to school, to begin his career in Data Processing. He became Vice President of data processing for the Sycamore National Bank in Sycamore, IL, retiring in 1996. Howard enjoyed camping, traveling, cheering on the Cubs, and above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Howard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gloria Rand of Rochelle; four children: Craig (Georgi) Rand of Crystal Lake, IL, Vicki (John) Gibson of Vancouver, WA, Dale (Judi) Rand and Becky (Elvis) Leininger both of Rochelle; 12 grandchildren: Chad Rand, Amy (Noah) Gibson-Burns, Matt (Netanya) Rand, Carmen (Blake) Vogeler, Rachael (Alex) Garcia, Courtney (Jason) Svela, Austin Rand, Karl (Margo) Rand-Roseum, Adam Leininger, Erica Gibson, Diane (Andrew) Duke, and Tara Leininger; and 8 great grandchildren: Jayce Garcia, Lucy Duke, Cayson, Rylan, Brayden and Kinley Svela, and Ava and Lexi Vogeler, and baby Garcia on the way; 2 brothers: Charles (Phyllis) Rand, Gerald (Marjorie) Rand; sister, Norma Rand, sister-in-law, Donna Rand, and a special cousin, Audrey Stocking.

In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Wilbur, Lowell and Ronald Rand, and 3 sisters: Phyllis Charlesworth, Marilyn Eychaner, and Carol Rand.

The visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 10 A.M., Wednesday, September 29 at Esmond United Methodist Church, 675 Main St., Esmond with Pastor Dave Rogula officiating.
