Iris M. Sturgill, 95, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in her home. Iris was born Janurary 16, 1920 to John F. and Mable (Reints) Strang in Lindenwood, Illinos. She is a graduate of Stillman Valley High School and Rockford School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. Iris was an L.P.N. working for St. Anthony Hospital and Alma Nelson Manor. She married Gordon F. Hopkins on February 21, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1967. On December 24, 1969, she married Rev. Hubert L. Sturgill, who also preceded her in death on November 15, 1990. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by nine sisters: Fern Rittmeyer, Edna Beach, Cora Beck, Edith Hill, Stella Baker, Grace Huntley, Vera McQueen, Marie Dunahoo and Ruth Harrolle and three brothers: Willard, Francis and Calvin Strang.

Iris is survived by three children: Mary Ann Hopkins of Dubuque, Iowa, Diana Hubele of Davis Junction and Gordon (Debbie) Hopkins of Stillman Valley, IL; two grandchildren: Christy Hopkins of Rockford, IL and Ryne Hopkins of Stillman Valley, IL; four step-children: Darryl (Janice) Sturgill of Watertown, WI, John Sturgill of the Philippines, Robert (Kim) Sturgill of Rockford, IL and Jeannine Gibson of Beloit, WI;11 stepgrandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat great-grandchild; sister, Margaret Hoffman of Rochelle; sister-in-law, Ruth Strang of White Swan, WA.

The visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:45 A.M., Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rob Hamilton and Rev. Ed Greenfield officiating. Burial will be at the Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the O.S.F. Hospice.
