July 16, 1942 – January 3, 2025
Jack Dean Kerns, Loving husband, father and grandfather, age 82, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on July 16, 1942 in Hector, Arkansas, the son of Albert "Bud" and Goldie (Bell) Kerns. Jack married Bernadean Lawson on December 22, 1960 at the Baptist Church in Creston, she preceded him on July 6, 2019. He is also preceded by his parents and sister Vivian Gail Kerns. Jack loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed driving his golf cart around Creston and visiting everyone. He and Bernadean enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. Before retiring, he worked for over 30 years at Hoffman Homes, and also worked with his dad at Kerns Excavating and construction. Jack was a great woodworker.
Survived by his 3 children: Teresa Kuehl of Rochelle, Sandra (Raymond) Hott of Sycamore, and Michael (Amy) Kerns of Creston; 9 grandchildren: Erica (Jeremy) Sachs and Robby (Catherine) Kuehl, Justin (Cori Simms) Muraira, Kendra (Tony) Wurster, Kylee (Cole Davidson) Muraira and Jacklynn Muraira and Travis (Haily)Kerns, Abby and Ashley Kerns; 6 great grandchildren: Kendall and Halle Sachs; Jaxson Wurster; Tatum Muraira and Waylon and Kenzlee Kerns; 2 sisters: Sharon (David) Brown of Creston, and Jennie (Norman) McLaughlin of Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews
Funeral will be 10:30 on Friday, January 10, 2025 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St. Rochelle with Rev. Duane Boehm officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 7 pm.
