Jake Dorsey, age 68, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Serenity Home in Oregon. He was born on March 1, 1946 in Layland, WV, the son of Jake William Dorsey and Agnes Piatek. Jake served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a loyal U.S. Soldier who served two voluntary tours in Vietnam, and earned the Army Commendation Medal. He retired as a Dock Spotter for Arkansas Best Freight in Des Plaines, IL. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 710 for over 25 years. Jake loved to build projects, collect albums for his music collection and truly loved his home state of West Virginia and his many special friends there. He is preceded in death by his mother and step father: Agnes and Claude Hess who raised him, and also by his sister, Peggy Steele, and brother, Charles Hess.
Survived by Betty Dorsey and their children: Angela Dawn (Paul) Cooney of Rochelle, and Kristy M. (Daniel Sabel) Dorsey of Mayville, WI; 3 grandchildren: Bradley and Breanna Cooney, and Tyler Sabel; 3 siblings: James (Norinne) Hess, Joann (Patrick) Mearna, and Carol (and the late, David) Lukesh.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 - 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Trinity Memory Gardens with Military Rites provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established to the Serenity Hospice and Home.
