James H. Combs, age 81 of Rochelle, IL, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was born on March 3, 1925 in Advance, IL, the son of Henry Clarence and Eva Mae (Whitt) Combs. Jim married Shirley Marie Jacobs on Sept. 22, 1946 in Rochelle. Prior to retirement, he worked for Del Monte Corp. Plant 110 for 36 years.

He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, member of VFW Post 3878 since 1944, American Legion Post 403 since 1946, Rochelle Moose 903 since 1949, served as a Rochelle volunteer fireman from 1951-1988 and was assistant chief since 1958, and was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for 22 years.

Jim was preceded by 2 sisters: Avice Whitt and Wilma Carter.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Rochelle; 2 sons: Jim (Paula) Combs and Don Combs both of Rochelle; a daughter: Eva (Jerry) Medine of Rochelle; special friend: Joanne Ahlensdorf;
2 sisters: Ruth Healy of Greenup, IL and Jona Ingram of Aumsville, OR; 6 grandchildren:
Chris, Scott & Kyle Combs, Jackie Cruz, and Alicia and Justin Medine; 2 great grandchildren:
Patrick and John Combs.

Funeral Services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 at 1:30
PM. Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 30th at Unger-Horner Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM.
Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery with Military Services by VFW Post 3878. Memorials can be made to Hub City Senior Citizens Center or to the Rochelle Fire Department.
