James Luke, 72, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 under the care of hospice in DeKalb, IL. He was born May 5, 1941 in Waterbury, Connecticut to John J. and Mildred M. (Stewart) Luke. James was a sergeant in the army and served our country during the Vietnam Conflict. James was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. In 2009, James married Cynthia Tolbert in Rochelle.
James is survived by his wife, Cynthia, two sons: Alan Luke of DeKalb, IL, Walter Scott of Freeport, IL; two daughters: Tarmencita Scott of Reno, NV and Tiffany (Trumaine) Henderson of Rochelle; one brother, Thomas (Helen) Luke of Sycamore, IL and 5 grandchildren: Abigale Luke, Madison Brooke Webster, Di'Quan and Di'Nayja Ishmon and T.J. Henderson; one niece and two nephews and lots of great nieces and nephews plus host of family and friends.
The funeral service will be 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Crossroad's Community Church, 3301 N. 251, Rochelle with Doug Askew officiating. The visitation will be 10:00 - 11:15 A.M. the same day as the funeral at the church. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb at 2:00 P.M. The memorial is to be established.
