James R."Jim" Phipps passed away unexpectedly September 9, 2023 at his home in Rochelle. Jim was born on September 26,1956 to Richard S. and Beatrice "Peggy" Phipps in Rochelle, Illinois. Jim attended Rochelle schools and graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1974. From there, he attended Kishwaukee College earning an Associate Degree in Biology. Jim liked tinkering with his cars and always kept them in great running condition. He used his skills to work in maintenance for a rental company in DeKalb supplying dorm rooms with washers, dryers, fridges etc. His present occupation was head of maintenance at the Holiday Inn in Rochelle. In his younger days, Jim enjoyed shooting pool with friends. He was a Green Bay Packer fan and took a lot of ribbing for it.

Jim is survived by sisters: Marcia Forlenza of Waukegan IL, Pamela (Gayle) Phipps of Loves Park, IL, Paula Phipps of Fayetteville, AR, and Ellen Brown of Lexington, KY; brother, Jerry (Janet) Phipps of Gainesville FL; nieces: Jennifer Forlenza of Waukegan IL, Aimee (PJ) Joanos of Tallahassee, FL; nephew, Alex (Grace) Phipps of San Diego, CA; several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and numerous cousins. Jim was predeceased by his parents, and brothers-in-law: Dan Forlenza and Chris Brown.

There will be no service, but a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home 400 N. 6th St Rochelle, IL. We are asking that people please dress comfortably as Jim would. Wear your blue jeans as a tribute to Jim. Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.
