George "Jerry" McIlvoy, of Rochelle, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at the Shabbona Health Care Center. He was born on Jan. 12, 1938, in Rochelle, the son of Rufus Pringle and Samantha Louise (Young) McIlvoy. Jerry graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1955 and DeVry Tecninical Institute in 1958. He leased Harry's Sandwich Shop for 8 years in the early 1970's. He was employed by Clinton Electronics for many years and had served as Clerk of the Village of Hillcrest.
Jerry was very active in several community organizations throughout the years including the Jaycees's, Moose Lodge (Past Governor), Rochelle Theater (Wizard of OZ, Arsenic & Lace 1978-79), chairman of a group to revive fireworks, chairman of Concerned Citizens group to build Overpass (1980) and the Rochelle Planning Commission for 16 years. In 1998 Jerry received the Community Leader of the Year Award for his contributions to the the city he loved so much. Memberships also include the New Life Four Square Church. On Feb. 12, 2006, Jerry married Kay Crumbacher in Rochelle. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son: Mark in 1998 and sister: Louise Dodson.
Survivors included his wife, Kay of Rochelle; son: Scott McIlvoy of Portgage, WI; daughters:
Denisa Paris of Wisconsin Rapids, WIand Tina (Mark) Conti of Salsbury, MD; step daughters: Angela (Kevin)Bush of Sterling, IL and Anita Lellenberg of Rochelle; sisters: Carol McIlvoy of Shabbona, IL and Janet (Harles) Holt of Sevierville, TN; brother Robert Eugene (Betsy) McIlvoy of Colorado Spring, CO, Aunt: Joyce Young of Rochelle; 4 grandchildren: Mitchell and Morgan Conti, Tiffany Plowman and Anna McIlvoy; 3 step grandchildren: Elizabeth Pashon, and Tessa and Jacob Bush.
Services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM
with Rev. Ken and Anne Erickson. Visitation on Wed., Jan. 18th from 4 to 7 PM at Unger-Horner. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family.
