The angels in heaven are singing today because God has welcomed His precious servant home, Jewel Elizabeth (Cagle) Russell. Jewel was a woman of faith who touched many people through her Sunday school teaching, her witnessing, her faith and her example.
Jewel Elizabeth Russell, 87, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at Rochelle Gardens Care Center in Rochelle. She was born March 24, 1925 in Hickory Flat, Mississippi, the daughter of Willie Edward and Mary Lucille (Bounds) Cagle. Jewel married James Edward Russell on December 2, 1945 in Parkin, Arkansas. Jewel was the oldest of 17 children. They moved to Rochelle with their four children in 1953. She worked for Rochelle Community Hospital for 16 years as a nurse's aid. She, also, worked at Eaton Corp. 7 years, and then Market Basket and Eagle bakeries before retiring in 1987. Jewel was preceded in death by her eldest son, Mickey; six brothers: William Lee Earl, Willie (Sonny) Jr., Johnny, Roger, Bobby, and Paul Cagle and four sisters: Mildred Ann Cagle, Georgia McCoy Walker, Marie Stevens and Betty Stogsville .
Jewel is survived by her husband, James, two sons: William Edward (Karen) Russell of Ashton, IL and Danny (Lisa) Russell of Rochelle; daughter, Bonnie (Jinks) Hord of Sparta, Missouri; four brothers: Bruce Cagle of Rochelle, Cecil (Pat) Cagle of Peoria, IL, Larry (Lynette) Cagle of Marion, IL, and Ronald Cagle of Rochelle; two sisters: Martha (Dennis) Harrison of Rochelle and Mary Manley of Rochelle, and a close friend Cheryl Russell of Rochelle; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 13great great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating A luncheon will be held at the Church of God immediately following the burial at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
