Rochelle

Joan Hummel, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Rochelle, Illinois. Joan was born on January 26, 1941, the daughter of Lee and Geneva (Drabenstott) Reitz in Ashton, IL. She married Karol Austin Hummel in Rochelle.

Joan was happiest being outside in her garden or flower beds. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and some friendly competition playing board and card games.

Joan is survived by her husband, Karol of Rochelle; three children: Dawn Holmes of Rochelle, Steve Locke and Mike Locke; daughter-in-law, Kathy Locke of Rochelle; two brothers: Bob (Kathy) Reitz of Rockford, IL and Randy (Sue) Reitz of Rochelle; sister, Judy (Jim) Burger of Oregon, IL; eight grandchildren: Austin Holmes, Amber and Sarah Hummel, Mike Jr., Rachel, Jessica, Tonya and Chrissy Locke and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Bob Locke and sister, Janice Pitman.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 4 at the funeral home with Chaplain Ken Lawson officiating. Burial will be in the Ashton Cemetery in Ashton, IL.
