John D. Govig, 66, Steward, IL passed away Dec. 15, 2007 at Pine Acres in DeKalb, IL. John was born Aug. 3, 1941 in Rochelle, IL the son of John and Helen (Colton) Govig. John married Nancy G. Heitmanek, Sept. 22, 1962 in Cicero, IL. He was a Steward, IL area farmer for many years. He was also a member of the 1st Presbyterian church in Rochelle, Fire Chief for 20 Years of the Ogle-Lee (Steward) Fire Dept. Over the years, John was also on the Steward School Board, Lee Co. Special Edu. Board, DeKalb Co. Fire Fighters Assoc., Steward Village Trustee, Alto Township Road Comm. & Trustee, Crop Insurance Specialist, and a member of the International Fire Chief Assoc. In 1992 John received a heart transplant at the Loyola Hospital. John enjoyed spending time with his family, camping with friends, farming, and enjoyed caring for his yard and garden.
John is survived by:
Wife: Nancy. 3 Daughters: Karen Savage of Boston, Julie (Dave Carrion) Govig of Sterling, and Jill (Richard) Kane of Steward. Brother: Ralph (Ruth Ann) Govig of Lanark, IL. 2 Sisters: Beverley (Arnold) Eykamp of Dixon, IL, and Lucile (Kenny) Abney of Tenmile, Tennessee. Grandchildren: Amanda, Alexis, Andrew, and Aiesha Savage; Nicole and Warren Green; and Kevin and Hannah Kane.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday Dec. 20th at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, with Rev. Dr. John Hamilton officiating. A visitation will be held Wed. Dec. 19, from 4:00-7:00 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Memorials to the Steward Fire Dept., DeKalb Co. Hospice, and Organ Donor Program. Burial will be held at the Union Cemetery in Steward, IL.
