Rochelle
John "Jack" Grennan, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in his home surrounded by his four daughters. Jack was born December 12, 1943 to John J. and Mary (McKenna) Grennan in Rochelle, Illinois. He went to Rochelle Township High School where he met and later married Cheryl Charn on August 1, 1964 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle. He opened Grennan Meats where many years of hard labor were invested until the day he passed, with his eldest grandson, Jack, by his side in recent months. The last 20 years of his life were spent with those he was proud of and loved most, his grandchildren, all of whom were with him in his final days.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl, on April 18, 2016; son, Michael; infant children: John and Mary; and brother, Bill Grennan.
Jack is survived by his four daughters: Cheri (Jim) Smith, Peggy (Dave) Bialas, Kerry (Brian) Lindquist and Kelly (Todd) Nesgood; brother, Tom (Chris) Grennan; sister, Pat Primrose; and 15 grandchildren: Jack, Kate, James and Meg Smith, Luke, Cain, Rebecca, Cheryl and David Bialas, Lane, Noah, Alexander and Charlie Lindquist and William and Caroline Nesgood.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Heartland Hospice especially his care giver, Janine.
The visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. There will be an additional visitation from 10:00 - 10:45 A.M., Friday, February 24 with the funeral service following at 11:00 A.M., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 207 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father William Wentink officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials may be made in Jack's memory to Heartland Hospice of Rockford, IL or Ann and Robert H.
