John William McConkey, 42, of Ashton, IL, died in a car accident in Rockford, IL on Monday, February 5th, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; two rascals (sons): Shane and Sam; his parents, Deane McConkey of Cortland, IL and Vickie McConkey of Sycamore, IL; brothers: Thomas, James (Theresa), Mark (Melanie); sister, Saundra Cavaleri; and many cherished in-laws as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.

John stirred up trouble, or rather, grew up in Cortland, IL, attended DeKalb High School, and on September 24th, 1999 he married Paula Bullock of Waterman, IL. He was an extraordinary plumber by trade, most recently employed by Culligan of Rockford, IL, but also owned and ran a petting zoo with his wife on their farm in Ashton, IL. In the little spare time he had, John was an accomplished handyman who loved to help out friends and family. He was also an avid fan of many different styles of music and wisely schooled his boys in the ways of the 3 Stooges. John's contagious sense of humor and his caring and kind nature were some of his best attributes and family get-togethers on the 4th of July will never be quite the same without John and his grilling expertise. There are truly no words to express the depth of loss we all feel at John's passing.

Visitation will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St. Rochelle, IL 61068 from 11:00am to 3:00pm with funeral service beginning at 3:00pm. on Saturday, February 10th, 2018.
