John F. Montmarquette, 73, passed away Sunday, July 30 2017 at his home in Rochelle. John was born on March 23, 1944 to John and Helen (Hammerley) Montmarquette in Chicago, IL. Out of the many jobs John had, his favorite job was teaching the deaf and blind to communicate at Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind for six years. After that, he was a data analyst for 19 years at AHA in Chicago, followed by ten years with LTD Commodities as a correspondence and research representative. Throughout the years, he also was an aerobics and dance instructor, gave Holy Communion to the sick and worked with hospice as a volunteer. John enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Several of them affectionately viewed him as a father/grandfather figure.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Wolf; niece, Christine Wolf-McCarthy; nephew, Joseph Helminiak and great great niece, Victoria Wolf.
John is survived by sisters: Jill Mitchell, Francine Helminiak and Helene Robertson; seven nieces: Shannon Doyle, Robin Novack, Tracy Kozinski, Renee Mitchell, Lynne Mitchell-Haas, Heather Ochs and Erin Johnson; nine nephews: Scott Wolf, William Mitchell, Terrence Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Gregory Mitchell, Steven Helminiak, Michael Helminiak, and Antwan Shaun Payne; 19 great nieces; 15 great nephews; five great-great nieces; and three great-great nephews. He was a surrogate grandfather to Antwan Payne Jr. and Amauri Payne.
There will be a memorial service at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father Ruben Herrera officiating. The burial will follow the service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle. Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle.
