John O. "Lucky" Sandvik, age 85, of Davis Junction, IL, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born on Jan. 5, 1922, in Davis Junction, the son of Carl and Martha (Hagseth) Sandvik. He attended Davis Junction grade school and
graduated from Stillman Valley High School. John farmed all of his life at Davis Junction. On Sept. 10, 1949, he married Doris Peters. He enjoyed gardening, volunteering and helping others. Memberships include the Davis Junction United Methodist Church, Charter member of the Lynn-Scott Fire Protection District which he retired from after 34 years, Davis Junction-Scott Township Historical Society, 50+ year member of Ogle County Farm Bureau, and Big Mound Cemetery Association board member serving as president for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife: Doris of Davis Junction; 2 daughters: Barb Sandvik of Davis Junction and Joan (Michael) Adamson of Monroe Center, IL; 2 grandchildren: Valerie Adamson
and Brent (Dawn) Adamson both of Monroe Center; brother-in-law: Ronald (Pat) Peters; 2 nephews: Richard McCaslin and Donald Peters and niece: Teresa (Steve) Severson and several great nieces and nephews.
John was preceded by his parents, a sister: Selma; brother-in-law: Eugene "Mac" McCaslin and nephew: Robert McCaslin.
Funeral services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Megan Smick. Visitation will be at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 4th, from 5 to 8 PM. Memorials can be made to the Davis Junction United Methodist Church or to Davis Junction Fire Department. Burial will be at Big Mound Cemetery in Davis Junction, IL.
