Cadet, Missouri

John Darwin Sims, 87, of Cadet, Missouri died Friday, April 18, 2014 at Potosi Manor in Potosi, MO after a long illness. He was born November 17, 1926 in Fertile, Minnesota, the son of the late Elmer G. and Eunice (Copeland) Sims. John was a WWII veteran. He worked at Del Monte Foods in Rochelle, IL. He retired and moved to Florida until he lost his wife of 54 years, Pearl E. (Thompson) Sims. He then moved to Potosi, MO to be closer to his family. John was a long time member of Potosi Methodist Church and the Rochelle United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by five sisters: Helen (Sims) Solberg, Doreen (Sims) Romer, LaVonne (Sims) Frette, Eileen (Sims) Largis and Gayle (Sims) Lerfald; two brothers: Pershing Sims and Curtis Sims; his son, Joseph L. Sims and grandson, Ernie D. Bennett.

Survivors include two sisters: Amber F. (Sims) Schabacher of Mentor, MN and Gerldine M. (Sims) Reynolds of Denver, CO; two brothers: Ted Sims of Detroit Lakes, MN and Burnett Sims of Clearbrook, MN; five children: John (Cheryl) Sims of Toledo, OH, Elizabeth Bennett and friend, Lynn Juliette, of Cadet, MO, Joy Wiltzius of DeKalb, IL, LuAnn (Jim) Jennings of Rockford, IL and Shirley Volkert and friend, Billy Brown, of Hillsboro, MO; daughter-in-law, Cindy Sims, of Louisville, KY; 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6 ^th St., Rochelle with Pastor Cindy Marino officiating. The visitation will be the same day as the memorial service from 9:00 to 10:15 A.M. Burial will follow at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle with military honors. Memorials may be made to the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
