John A. Slack, 63, devoted family man, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Rockford, Illinois. John was born December 2, 1952 to Clifton A. and Alice I. (McEachern) Slack in Claremont, NH. He was a talented and successful real estate developer. John married the love of his life, Kathleen Holmes, on October 1, 1995 in Oregon, IL. John's success in business was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. His brilliance and generosity made a positive impact on all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Scott and his sister, Mary.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Rockford, children: David (Marci Loven) Slack of Stillman Valley and Lindsay (Justen) Kent of Rockford; two brothers: Tom (Susan) Slack of Pittsburgh, PA and Ronald (Gay) Slack of Rockford; two sisters: Shirley (Wayne) Pelletier and Carol (Carl) Hale both of Rochelle; seven grandchildren: Miranda, Kate, Hannah, Brady, Ciana, Hudsen and Avonlea; and many nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 22 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
