José E. Herrera, age 71, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at OSF St. Anthony in Rockford.  He was born on February 8, 1954 in Natalia, Texas, the son of George and Juanita (Mendez) Herrera.  José married Irene Saucedo, she preceded him on July 6, 2024.  In addition to his wife, José is preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Herrera, Jr.

José is survived by his four children: Danex Herrera, Mayra Herrera, Yadhira Herrera, and Angie (Caesar Cisneros) Herrera; five grandchildren: Aseneth (Rich Nelson) Herrera, Danex J. Herrera, Giovanni Herrera, Vincent Herrera-Cisneros and Sebastian Herrera-Cisneros; great granddaughter, Mila Olivia Nelson; granddog, Milo and three brothers: Alfredo Herrera, Pete Sarabia and Herman Sarabia.

Funeral mass will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:45 PM - 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the church.  Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
