Rochelle

Judith A. Schmidt, 78, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born October 6, 1940, the daughter of John Andrew and Arlene (Clark) Martin. She married George W. Schmidt on August 20, 1988 in Rochelle.

Judy worked as a church secretary for the Crystal Lake Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle. She volunteered her time with Snug Hugs, knitting hats and blankets for newborns and other children through the Children's Home and Aid network. Judy was an avid bowler, having competed in the Women's National Bowling Tournament for 24 years and the Illinois Women's Bowling Tournament for over 40 years. She like camping, traveling the United States, talking with people, and riding her bike with her husband. Judy loved animals, especially cats and dogs.

Judy is survived by her husband, George W. Schmidt; two children, Scott Asbell and Kimberly Asbell; five step-children, Greg Schmidt, Gayle Campbell, Geri Schmidt, Glenn Schmidt, and Gary Schmidt; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Miller; brother, Jon Allen Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation care has been provided by the Unger Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-4:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018, at the Harvest Baptist Church, 241 Scott Avenue, in Rochelle (Hillcrest.) Contributions in Judy's memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
