Karol Austin Hummel, 92, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 at his home in Rochelle, Illinois. Karol was born on April 2, 1930 to George E. and Dorothy A. (Rummel) Hummel in Fremont, Ohio. He married Joan Reitz in Rochelle. He proudly served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Karol loved to travel, and was an Ohio farm boy through and through. He worked at the Del Monte canning plant prior to retiring.

Karol is survived by two children: Dawn Holmes of Rochelle, and Mike Locke; sister, Donna three grandchildren: Austin Holmes, Amber and Sarah Hummel.

In addition to his parents, Karol was preceded in death by his wife, Joan on September 28, 2022; son, Bob Locke; brother, George "Juney" Hummel, and sister, Pauline.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February, 9, 2023 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 10, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Ashton Cemetery in Ashton, IL with military services provided by the Eastern Lee/Ogle Honor Guard. A memorial will be established.
