Kathy Ann Thorp, 72, longtime resident of Oregon, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Symphony of Maple Crest in Belvidere. She was born June 15, 1952 in Wilson, Arkansas, the oldest of seven children of Troy and Katherine (Anderson) Jones.

Kathy was known to be stubborn and tough as nails, but she had a huge heart and always put everyone else first. She made the best fried chicken. She made the holidays brighter by being an excellent gift giver.

Kathy is survived by two sons, Jason (Jodi) Gates and Eric (Megan) Gates, both of Machesney Park, IL; two grandchildren, Ian Gates and Olivia Olson; three brothers, Ron (Betty) Jones of Rochelle, Michael (Mary) Jones of Stillman Valley, and Travis (Teresa) Jones of Stillman Valley; sister, Marilyn Flores of Elgin, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children

In addition to her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Thorp; two brothers, Ricky and Jerry Jones; a daughter, Erica Dawn Gates and her dear beloved dog, Snuggles, who passed just two weeks before Kathy.

Cremation care has been provided the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. A memorial funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street in Rochelle. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service on Saturday at the funeral home.
