Kenneth Paul Detig, 70, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Serenity Hospice in Oregon, Illinois. Ken was born September 17, 1942 to Paul and Mary (Gallagher) Detig in DeKalb, IL. Growing up on a farm near Steward, IL established his amazing ability to tackle any type of work.

In 1960, as Rochelle Township High School "Hubs" Ken and Nancy Ann Olson attended the prom together, thus beginning a 53 year "best friends and sweethearts" relationship. After his graduation from Iowa State University, Ken and Nancy were married on June 12, 1965. They have been blessed with wonderful children including three sons: Steve (Amy) of Byron, IL, Jeff (Alicia) of Waxhaw, NC, and Matt (Lisa) of Greenwood, MO, and daughter Emily (Jim) of Wheeling, IL. Their joy-giving grandchildren are Sarah, Lauren and Eric Detig, Ryan, Cameron and Addison Detig, Delaney Detig and Melah Foley. "Gramps" was so proud of them all. Ken is also survived by sister Ann (Bob) Loechler of Rochester, MN.

Upon his retirement after 32 years of dedicated service to Parsons-Eagle/Campbell Wrapper Packaging Systems, Ken was given a plaque stating "Your clever intellect, boundless energy, dedicated work ethic and sharp wit have contributed to your many accomplishments."

Ken's family is so grateful for the support and prayers of family and friends, including those at "The Amazing Place for Amazing Grace", First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, IL.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle. Lunch will be served at 12:00. The visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. Burial is at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
