Kenneth Eugene Reints, 67, Died on 30 May 2011 at Sharon Health Care, Peoria, IL, his home for the past several years. Ken was born on 1 January 1944 at Rochelle, IL, youngest in a family of 4 children and first baby of the year at Rochelle Hospital.
He grew up on the family farms in the Creston/Esmond area, attending Creston Grade School and after the family moved to Sycamore IL, he graduated from Sycamore High school (1962) and then attended the University of Illinois.
He is survived by two brothers - Philip Leo (Darlene), Pinedale, WY, Robert Earl Jr. (Delores), Dysart, IA, and one sister, Ruth Helen (Larry) Mayo, Bellevue, WA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel (Finley) Reints and a niece, Connie (Reints) Kahler.
Ken was a handsome high achiever as a young man, a top student in school and received many recognition honors for his work in 4-H and FFA with projects including crop and livestock production, showmanship, marketing, truck gardening and leadership skills. He received the 1962 DeKalb County Outstanding Agriculture 4-H Member award, State Farmer Degree at the Illinois FFA convention in Chicago and was a delegate for Illinois to the National 4-H Club Congress in 1962. Ken also ran for the track team at Sycamore High School.
Following high school he began studies at the University of Illinois with interest in veterinary medicine. While at the U of I, he was struck down in the prime of his youth by a debilitating disease. With help of family and medical experts he struggled to defeat the disease but eventually it took him out of the game for the remainder of his life and left him disabled and unable to pursue his goals.
Visitation will be at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, IL, Sat, June 4, 10:00 AM with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Les McClelland officating, also at Unger-Horner Funeral Home and then committal at Lindenwood Cemetery followed by lunch and fellowship at Lindenwood Union Church.
