Kenneth Fredrick Schafer, 78, formerly of Franklin Grove, IL passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Walnut Acres - Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport, Illinois.  Ken was born on November 4, 1944, the son of Herman A. and Helen W. (Smith) Schafer in Sterling, IL.  On October 24, 1971, he married Irene M. Wede in Franklin Grove, IL.  She preceded him in death on July 18, 2002.

Ken served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.  He was a Mason and a member and organist of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Franklin Grove for many years.

Ken is survived by his sister-in-law, Arlene Hansen of Rochelle, IL; five nephews and nieces: Wayne (Fay) Hansen of Moulton, AL, Garry (Lisa) Hansen of Waukesha, WI, Diane (Randy) Monson of Rochelle, IL, Karen (Marty) Feldhaus of Davis Junction, IL and Glenn Hansen of Rochelle; several cousins and many friends.
