Lenore Kasten Nye, 94, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her home in Rochelle, IL. She was born on Dec. 1, 1917 in Oak Ridge, Missouri, to Theodore and Annette (Willer) Kasten.
After graduating from Central High School in Cape Girardeau in 1934, she received a B.S. from Southeast Missouri State College in 1937 and M.A. from Peabody College in 1945.
She married Earl Johnson in 1962, who died in 1969, and Philip H. Nye in 1979, who died in 1992. She is survived by her nieces, Mary S. (Robert) Stanley and Martha S. (Edgar) Fiehler both of Jackson, Judy S. (Paul) Woehrmann of Milwaukee, Linda K. Slade of St. Louis, and nephews: Robert (Nita) Sheets of Cape Girardeau and Michael Kasten of Jackson, and step sons, Philip H. (Maggie) Nye of Rochelle, IL and William G. Nye of Phoenix.
Lenore taught school in Cape Girardeau for nine years and in the Elgin, Illinois School District for twenty eight years, where she influenced the lives of a great number of young people with her dedication to her profession of teaching.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, Rochelle Womens Club, Friendly Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Rochelle Township Historical Society (life member), Art Institute of Chicago (life member), and Rochelle Hospital Auxiliary.
Her interests included reading, golf, music, bridge and extensive travel throughout the world.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be at the Church on Monday prior to the service from 9 - 9:45 AM.
Private burial at Riverview Cemetery in Oregon, IL.
