Obituary

Alice Leota Hansen, age 86, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Rochelle Community Hospital with her family at her side. She was born on October 31, 1931 in Creston, IL, the ninth child of Oliver and Mary (Kurth) Finnestad. Leota graduated from the Rochelle Township High School, she later worked for over 20 years at the Hayes Drug Store and then Barkers Drug Store, retiring as a pharmacy tech. She married Ronald F. Hansen on September 23, 1950 in Rochelle, he preceded her on December 20, 2012. She is also preceded in death by her eight siblings: Burdette Finnestad, Ken Finnestad, Jack Finnestad, Oliver Finnestad, Verlis Finnestad, Lois Allen, Shirley Nelson, and Robert Finnestad. Leota loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing games and cards, and taking the opportunity to instill the virtue, "If you cheat at games or cards, you will cheat in life." She enjoyed playing the piano, cards, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed the Radio Ministry from the Rochelle United Methodist Church and the many visits from TJ Yordy.

Leota is survived by her three daughters: Karla (Ron) Steder, Ronda (Roy) Threlkeld, and Paula (Dennis) Hewitt all of Rochelle; her 11 grandchildren: Brandon (Jackie) Watson, Mitch (Penn) Watson, Eric (Susan) Watson, Candy, Mat and Amanda Steder; Jon (Kristen) Mykrantz, Elizabeth (Keith) Formell; Meredith (Jerry) Wodka, Mark (Rebekah) Hewitt, and Mallory (Tyler) Glover; 19 great grandchildren: Grace, Miles and Nora Watson, Tyler Tuetken, Gavin Rhodes, Madison Steder, Evelyn Watson, and Olivia Watson; Braeden Geisler; Samantha Formell, Payton and Reese Mykrantz; Ethan, Addison and Noah Wodka; Denison, Luke and Roger Hewitt; and Teddy Glover.

There will be a private family graveside service held at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Rochelle United Methodist Church.
