Obituary

Leroy E. Ewald, 84, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 in Freeport, IL. Leroy was born August 11, 1930 to Earl Henry and Rosa Leola (Hays) Ewald in Alto Township, Lee County, Illinois. He married Marjorie Irene Hare on March 29, 1951 in Steward, IL. Leroy proudly served our country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War in which he received the Purple Heart Medal, United Nations Medal with three stars and the Presidential Unit Citation with one star. He worked for Woods Manufacturing in Oregon, IL as a supervisor for many years, then worked and retired from Crest Foods. Life member and past commander of both the Ashton Post 345 American Legion, and the Dixon Area Detachment and Department of Illinois Marine Corps league; life member of the Pound 117 Devil Dogs, Purple Heart, and the 1st Marine Division Member; member of the V.F.W. Post 3878, Able Company 1st battalion 7th Marines 1st Marine Division, International Chosen Few, and member and assistant founder of the Illinois Chapter of Chosen Few.
Leroy was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Ewald, son, Ronald Ewald, two brothers: Harold and Howard Ewald and infant grandchild, Crystal.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Rochelle, daughter, Merilee (John) Loggins of Rochelle, brother, Virgil Ewald of Rochelle, eight grandchildren: Richard Patterson III, Angela Patterson, Lisa Sale, Robby Ewald, Ronda Scott, Jamie (Josh) Brigl, Julie (Brent) Young, John Michael (fiancé Allison Davis) Loggins; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 10 A.M., on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Ashton Cemetery, Ashton, IL with Military Honors provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
