IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lonna Jean
Alcock
January 23, 1943 – November 25, 2023
Lonna Jean (Leander) Alcock, 80, formerly of Davis Junction, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Lincolnshire Place in Sycamore where she had been a resident since May. Born January 23, 1943 in Rockford, Illinois to Eugene Ralph and Helen Lucille (Van Vleet) Leander, Lonna was raised in Rockford and lived there until marrying William McKenzie Alcock on December 27, 1967 in Rockford.
After marrying, she moved from an urban lifestyle to a rural life on a grain and cattle farm SW of Davis Junction. Lonna and Bill farmed and raised three sons. She wanted her children to try as many activities as possible and became a Cub Scout Den Mother revitalizing Pack 315 in Stillman Valley. This proved fortuitous as she enjoyed the organizational and creative aspects of Scouting and continued with Scouting long after her children left. This culminated in earning the coveted Silver Beaver Award from the national Boy Scouts of America. She enjoyed everything creative from knitting, sewing, and quilt making to gardening, ceramics and painting. This led to work as an instructor at Stretch & Sew fabrics in Rockford, as well as achieving the status of master gardener through the University of Illinois extension office.
Lonna earned a certificate in egg inspection from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and worked for the state of Illinois as an egg inspector. Once her children graduated from college, she went back to school to finish her college degree at Rockford University graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration; which had been started 30 years earlier at NIU in DeKalb. When not gardening or doing art projects, she enjoyed traveling overseas to Formula 1 races, golfing, playing bridge, and being with family, especially during the holidays.
Lonna is survived by her sons: Scott (Cheryl Frankfater) Alcock of St Louis, Missouri, Bryce (Lia) Alcock of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Trevor (Rachel) Alcock of Sycamore, Illinois; grandchildren: Ellina (Justin) Robischon, Edgar, Aaron, and Evan; great-grandchildren, Mason and Emelia Robischon; sister-in-law, Alice Carol (Alcock) Bell; niece and nephews: Arianne Clarke, Brent Leander, and Matt Littlefield; and many cousins and good friends.
Lonna was predeceased by her parents, husband, Bill in 2012, brother, Barry Gene Leander in 1997, and brother-in-law, Henry Barker Bell a month ago.
