Luan B. Wine, long time Rochelle resident, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 97. Born in Macomb, Illinois, on March 24, 1927, to Harold H. and Louise (Provine) Bown, Luan lived in Macomb through college. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and she received her BS in Education from WISTC (now Western Illinois University) in 1948. She was a math major, with minors in physics and accounting. She had a lifelong interest in accounting.
On June 6, 1948, she married Gerald O. Wine in Bushnell, Illinois. They lived in Deland and Fairview
before moving to Rochelle in 1955. Luan worked as a substitute teacher for Rochelle Township High
School, where her husband was a business teacher. She was a devoted member of the First
Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder, treasurer for many years, and as the Memorial Fund
Liaison. Luan was very active in the DAR Rochelle Chapter, where she served as treasurer, registrar, and in many other offices. She also served on the Rochelle library board for ten years.
Jerry, Luan's husband of 66 years, predeceased her in December 2014. Survivors include her two
daughters, Vicki A. (James E. Betts) Wine of Rio, Illinois, and Nicki L. (Robert M.) Como of Berwyn,
Illinois; two grandchildren: Michael and Christina Como of Berwyn, Illinois; many nieces and nephews on Jerry's side, and several cousins on both sides of the family.
Luan will be remembered for many things, including her gracious spirit, her cookies at church coffee
hour, and the many cards she loved to send.
The family gratefully acknowledges the care and skill of the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and support staff
from the hospitals and nursing facilities.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 13, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Rd., Rochelle with Pastor Doug Forsberg officiating. There will be a time of reception with light refreshments and cookies immediately following the service. The family requests memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation.
