Lyle Eugene Harms, age 77 of Rochelle, passed away on Monday. Dec. 14, 2009 at Oak Crest in DeKalb, IL. He was born April 29. 1932 in Steward, IL the son of Fredrick and Maybelle Ludwig Harms. Lyle married Helen Arlene Pierce on Sept. 28, 1952 in Chana, IL and she preceded him on Dec. 1, 2003. They were blessed with 4 sons, 3 daughters, their wonderful spouses, 20 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, son-in-law, Larry Pelikan, and 2 brothers: Darrel and Donald Harms.
Lyle then married Joann W. Hayton on November 24, 2006 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood. He was a life long farmer in the Kirkland area, drove the bus for 14 years for the Kirkland School District and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife: Joann Harms of Rochelle, Sons: Ron (Becky) Harms of Esmond, IL, Russell (Lori) Harms and David (Patti) Harms both of Lindenwood, and Kevin (Sue) Harms of DeKalb; 3 daughters: Susan Pelikan of DeKalb, Nancy (Ray) Slattery of Kirkland and Carol (Don) Dummer of Lindenwood; 20 grandchildren: Heather, Jennifer, David, Elizabeth, Laura, Bethany, Jackson and Hayden Harms; Michael, Susan, Anthony and Christine Pelikan; Carrie and Michelle Dummer; Kelsey and Jayme Slattery; and Janna (Chad) Orlikowski and Holly (Trevor) Bertucci; Courtney (Ryan) Scott, April (Matt) Wells.
3 great grandchildren: Grace Eli, and Ada Orlikowski.

Services at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood with Rev. David Yarrington officiating.
Visitation on Thursday from 4 - 8 PM at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle.
Family requests memorials to the DeKalb County Hospice and St. Jude's Children Hospital.
Burial at Lindenwood Cemetery with a military service provided by the V.F.W. Post 3878.
