Obituary

Margaret L. Knight, 93, educator, librarian and musician died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Rochelle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born in rural Ogle County to Burton and Viola (Harter) Knight on February 13, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Homer (Susan) and Wilbur (Irene) Knight; sister, Frances (Robert) McKibben and nephew, Sean.

Margaret received an associate degree from Northern Illinois State Teachers College and taught three years in Fletcher School, the same one-room school she had attended as a child. She returned to college to finish her degree in B of Ed and taught sixth grade at Dixon's Lincoln School. She continued her education summers earning a masters degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois. Margaret became the Librarian at Park Ridge Jr. High School and then supervisor of the media centers for all Park Ridge Schools. She enjoyed traveling and spent a summer in Europe and later went on a tour around the world. After retirement, she was a volunteer librarian for Eswood School in Lindenwood. She also was a volunteer speaker in the Rochelle schools. Margaret gave piano lessons in her home and was the organist for the Lindenwood Union Church. She was very active in the church and with the youth groups. Margaret was a member of the Ogle County Historical Society, Prairie Preservation Society, Des Plaines Geological Society, Flagg Township Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Rochelle Area League of Women Voters and Whale Watchers of Rock River Valley. She held various offices in most of these organizations. Margaret was an avid student of geology, enjoyed gardening and creating jewelry.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Linda Keane of Lindenwood, IL; sisters-in-law Susan and Irene; five nephews, six nieces and many great nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Union Church in Lindenwood with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery. Memorials are to the Lindenwood Union Church.
