Obituary

Margaret Jean Meling, age 95, passed away peacefully and suddenly on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Rochelle Community Hospital. Born on September 25, 1917 to Merrit and Mabelle (Grant) Dailey of Chana, IL, she graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1934. She worked at Montgomery Ward Catalog in Chicago and at Harrison Grocery Store in Rochelle. On August 4, 1939, Jean married LaVern Meling and they farmed in Lindenwood until 1988. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to LaVern passing away on December 11, 1999.

Jean was a homemaker, wife and mother. She and LaVern loved to dance, play cards and spend time with their many friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, sisters Madalene Reed, Carolyn Koebler, and brothers Jack Dailey and Harlow Dailey.

Surviving her are her children: Lynnetta (Ron) Engelkes of Concord, CA and Barry (Elaine) Meling of Palm Desert, CA; three grandchildren—Jeff (Marianne) Engelkes of Redding, CA; Scott Engelkes of San Diego, CA, and Mark (Amy) Engelkes and great granddaughter Payton of San Diego, CA; one sister Evelyn (Gene) McGee of Land O Lakes, WI and one brother Hubert "Cy" Dailey of Mt. Morris, IL.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, from 4-7pm at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th Street, Rochelle. There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, A memorial has been established in Jean's name. The family are very grateful to the staff at Rochelle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the care provided to Jean during the past several years and to the ICU nursing staff at Rochelle Community Hospital. Family and friends are invited to send notes of remembrance or condolences in care of Lynnetta Engelkes, 4487 Pitch Pine Court, Concord, CA 94521. Private burial at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle.
