Margie L. Higgs, 89, resident of Courtyard East, Memory Care Unit, in McHenry, IL since 2021 and longtime resident of Rochelle, IL since 1968 died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Courtyard East Memory Care unit while under hospice care.
Born August 6, 1934 in Peoria, IL the daughter of John Marvin and Virginia Lee Bliss of Princeville, IL. She married Donald Paul Higgs on August 24, 1956 in Princeville, IL. Preceding Margie in death is her husband, Don; sisters-in-law: Karen Bliss, Marylin Telander and Kathy Higgs; brother-in-law, Brian Telander and one granddaughter.
Surviving are two daughters and one son: Becky (Mike) Fritz of McHenry, IL.; Melinda Higgs of Denver, CO; David (Shawn) Higgs of Richmond, IL.; two brothers: Robert (Karen) Bliss and John Bliss both of Princeville, IL; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Higgs of Las Cruces, NM and seven grandchildren.
A faithful Christian, she was a 55 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, IL. where she served multiple years as a deacon, as an elder, a Sunday school teacher, a Stephens Minister, volunteered at the thrift shop and served on a number of committees serving members of the church and the larger community. Margie also earned an associates degree in business and marketing from Kishwaukee College and spent 20 years working retail in DeKalb, IL. Margie loved to laugh, adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with family and friends. She and Don were married 64 years until his passing in 2020.
The visitation will be from 9:30 - 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 1, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M., Friday with Pastor Doug Forsberg officiating. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
