Marshall "Gene" Carlson of Holcomb, passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at OSF St, Anthony Hospital in Rockford.  Gene was born to Clarence and Mildred (Miller) Carlson on April 23, 1935 in Rochelle, IL.  He married Janice Flick on September 6, 1958 and had 3 sons:  Mark Carlson of Prescott, AZ, Brett (Debi) Carlson of Chana, IL, and Brad Carlson of Lebanon, MO.  Gene has a granddaughter and many bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Gene served in the United States Army, farmed, worked at the Berol Pencil Sharpener Company, Rochelle Vault and then retired as a Janitor at the Rochelle Township High School.  He enjoyed living in Arizona in the winter months and slot machines when he had the chance.  Gene was a quiet man and will be missed by all.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike Carlson.
