Obituary

Marvel Eleanor Blomberg, 91, of Rochelle, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Rochelle, Illinois surrounded by her family. She was born October 3, 1934, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Roland and Laura (Hobart) Nelson.

Marvel married Laverne “Ernie” Blomberg on June 26, 1955, in Winnebago, Illinois. They shared more than 55 years of marriage before his passing on February 13, 2011.

Marvel was an elementary school teacher in Rochelle for many years, including teaching at Lincoln School. Through her years as an educator, she touched the lives of many students and families in the Rochelle community.

Marvel loved to travel. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends. She visited 49 out of the 50 states and traveled abroad.

Marvel is survived by her three children, Jill (Ray) Talbott of St. Joseph, Illinois, Jim (Kathy) Blomberg of Rochelle, and Julie (Steve) Steele of Wheaton, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Alexander (Alyssa) Talbott, Daniel (Katelyn) Talbott, Kerri Talbott, Ken (Alyssa) Blomberg, Kelsey Blomberg, Kimberly Steele, Nicholas (Adela) Steele, and Elizabeth Steele; five great-grandchildren, Raymond Talbott, Rya Talbott, Jackson Talbott, Oliver Blomberg, and Alaina Patenaude; and special friends, Jim and Sue Peters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Laura Nelson; her husband, Laverne “Ernie” Blomberg; her sister, Mary Ellen (Gary) Winters; and her great-grandchild, Violet Blomberg.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. A public visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle.
