Obituary

Mary Flagg Koritz, 81, of Rochelle, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, November 2, 2012 at her home. She was born on September 9, 1931 in Sherman, IL, to Cornelius R. and Mary G. (England)Flagg.

She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1952. On June 22, 1952, she married Lloyd Thomas Koritz M.D. in Springfield, IL. They settled in Rochelle in 1953 and he began practice as a Family Physician.

Mrs. Koritz was active in community affairs, including the Rochelle Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O., volunteering at the Presbyterian Thrift Shop, and playing the piano at the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle and for the Rochelle Junior High chorus. She enjoyed traveling and flying with her sons. Most importantly, she was the best mother and grandmother a child could have.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse L. Thomas Koritz M.D., and a son: Major Thomas F. Koritz, MD who was killed in action in Iraq on Jan. 17, 1991. Survivors include her sons: Timothy (Julie) Koritz of Roscoe, IL, and Terence (Nancy) Koritz of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Julie (Peter) Krull of Spencer, Iowa; daughter-in-law Julianne C. Koritz of Boca Raton, FL; and fourteen grandchildren: Timothy Koritz, Jon (Melanie) Koritz, Scott Koritz, Katherine Koritz, Sarah Koritz, Jennifer Koritz, Elizabeth Koritz, Scott Krull, Brett Krull, Andrew Krull, Mary Krull, Paige Koritz, Grace Koritz and Hope Koritz.

Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle with Rev. James Tilley presiding on Friday Nov. 9th, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Visitation at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Thursday November 8th, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial at Lawnridge Cemetery.
