Matthew R. McCulloch, 77, of Dixon passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born in Oregon, March 6, 1937, the son of Robert and Della McCulloch. Married to Sonja on December 24, 1990. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sonja; children Michael (Laurie) McCulloch of Rochelle, IL; Sandra (John) Gevers of Kansas City, MO; Cheryl (Kevin) Barringer of Oregon, IL; ten grandchildren and one great grandson; brother in law, Bill Gaston and several nieces and nephew. Three step-daughters Sarah (Richard) Roesch; Corena Williams; and Amy (Mike) Williams and many step grand and step great grandchildren. Predeceased by his loving parents and loving sister.
Matthew worked as a butcher for over 36 years at the Market Basket, then at IGA and also for Headons. He was an avid car buff, and a NHRA fan, cheering for John Force. Matthew also enjoyed sipping coffee with Sonja each morning while watching the different birds at their feeders. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1955 to 1959.
Visitation will be from 2 - 5 PM on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6 th St., Rochelle.
Graveside service will be at 2 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Light House Cemetery on Daysville Rd., Oregon, IL with military services provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Serenity Hospice and Home or the Rochelle Township High School.
