Lindenwood
Matthias Himmelsbach, 93, of Lindenwood, Illinois, passed away at his home on June 3, 2016. He was born on May 7, 1923 in Putinci, Yugoslavia to Georg and Magdalena (Armbruster) Himmelsbach. He married Katharina Weber on March 6, 1948 in Austria. In 1951, they came to the United States and settled in Mendota, IL. In 1963, they moved to Aurora, IL and in 1998 to Lindenwood, next door to their son, Wally.
Matthias was a painter by trade most of his life, and worked at Mooseheart for many years until his retirement at age 62. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Rochelle Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his wife. His surviving family members include his son, best friend and caregiver, Wally of Lindenwood, IL; two daughters: Hilde (William) Lay of Aurora, IL and Rosemary (Charles) Heinemeier of Montgomery, IL; six grandchildren: Angelica (Michael) Calumet, William Lay, David (Kara) Lay, Jeffrey (Angie) Lay, Daniel (fiancèe, Olivia) Lay and Matthew Heinemeier; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.
The family will be forever grateful to Wally for the loving care he gave both of our parents.
