Obituary

Melvin W. Hoffman, 95 of Rochelle, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at
Rochelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Oct. 8, 1914 in a farm house near Monroe Center, IL to William C. And Edna W. (Wendt) Huffman. In 1932, he graduated from Monroe Center High School. Melvin married Margaret Strang Baker on Aug. 19, 1961 in Lindenwood Union Church. He farmed most his life retiring in 1975. Memberships include Ogle County Farm Bureau, and a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Lindenwood where he served as church treasurer, trustee, usher, and various other committees. He was an avid sports fan and a die-hard Cubs fan. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers: Truman and Willis; two sisters: Leila Baker, and Luella Hoffman, and an infant daughter: Cynthia Anne Hoffman.

Survivors include his wife: Margaret of Rochelle; son: David (Barbara) Hoffman of Mt. Morris, IL, 4 step children: Curt (Heather) Baker of Naples FL, John (Susan) Baker or Petersham, MA, Gary M. (Sara) Baker of Pekin, IL, and Barbara (Roger) Falk of Spirit Lake, IA;
14 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren (with two more coming), and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood with Rev. David Yarrington officiating.
Visitation from 5 - 7 PM on Thursday at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle
Burial at Monroe Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers: Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran
Church or Ogle County Hospice.
